The Hans Foundation Hospitals

The state of Uttarakhand in the northern part of India supports a population of more than 10 million people and over 70% live in very remote areas. Because few of India’s physicians practice rurally, most of the population lacks access to even the most basic of medical services. To address this need, The Hans Foundation established The Hans Foundation Hospitals to bring affordable quality health care to all in Uttarakhand and surrounding areas.

The Hans Foundation General Hospital, Satpuli

The Hans Foundation Hospitals 2017Set on 10 acres in the Pauri district of the Himalayas near the town of Satpuli, The Hans Foundation General Hospital is a charitable venture set up by The Hans Foundation Hospitals to provide heavily subsidized and even free medical services to the Uttarakhand population. The 150-bed multispecialty state-of-the-art facility officially opened in November 2017, complete with housing for doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel. The town of Satpuli, centrally located in the Pauri region, continues to serve as a valuable access point for medical services to the rural population.

The Hans Foundation Eye Care

thf-eyecare008-600x400A staggering 63 million people in India suffer from visual impairment. Yet with access to eye care, 80% can be helped. To reach the visually impaired in and around Uttarakhand, THF Hospitals is building The Hans Foundation Eye Care, a hospital set on a 4-acre site in the city of Haridwar. Currently, eye care services, including cataract and other surgeries, are being provided in a prefabricated hospital building on the same site, treating hundreds of patients daily. Meanwhile, Outreach Camps in remote villages and schools reach the rural poor. Camp patients in need of surgery are transported to and from the Haridwar facility and given one night of post-surgery lodging. The expanded THF Eye Care hospital will open in late 2018. Meanwhile, satellite hospitals and vision centers are also coming up to serve the rural poor at their doorsteps. Since inception on June 30th, 2014, THF Eye Care has already provided free or subsidized eye care to over 70,000 underprivileged patients. Each year, the number of patients is increasing.

The Hans Foundation Mobile Health Clinics

Rural villages throughout India face a chronic lack of access to medical care. The Hans Foundation Hospitals have built a network of well-equipped mobile health clinics into vans that travel around remote regions of India providing much-needed medical attention to the hardest-to-reach areas. With this system of service, tens of thousands of individuals receive professional medical treatment and preventative care that otherwise would not be available to them. Since its inception, the idea of mobile health vans has been replicated by many organizations across the country.
